IMHO you can hook a salmon on anything but getting him in and released as quickly as possible to lessen death rates dictates a min 7 wt I prefer 8/9 wt .. Myself I don't mess around in landing them,if they slip the hook oh well better for them and I could...

thanks for the info. on the site it says only 80yd of 20lb backing but the guys working at the store thaught it could hold 175yd that why im so confused about how much to put on. i think i will do what you said though and put it on backwards and go f...

First thing i would do is go on the website and see what they recommend for backing on that reel. Another thing you can do is to spool the line first,, then attach the backing and rell it on till the spool is full. Then strip it all off and wind it on pro...

Hey all, I'm looking at getting a new fly rod and can't decide on either a 9ft 5 or 6 weight.

Hey Kid.
Did you buy any backing for the reel too? Depending on the size of the reel and the fly line weight,, you should fill up the extra space on the spool with backing. Two reasons for this,, the first is you may just hook a fish that can better that...
